COGEN Europe Recognition Awards

Each year, COGEN Europe recognises individuals and organisations with remarkable achievements in developing, applying and promoting cogeneration. There are three categories: Policy Development, Market Development, and Technology & Innovation. Nominations are presented to a selected jury of industry professionals, policymakers and representatives of the research community. The winners received their award at our Gala Awards Dinner on Tuesday, 5th June 2018, during COGEN Europe's Power of Heat Conference. Congratulations to all the winners!

Quotes from the winners:

Dr. Frank-Michael Baumann, CEO of EnergieAgentur.NRW, Duesseldorf: “The COGEN Europe Recognition Award 2018 for the campaign CHP.NRW – Power Meets Heat of the EnergyAgency.NRW is a very important recognition of our activities in the last decade. Our campaign is acting on behalf of the North-Rhine Westphalian Government to publicise this technology and promote its expansion. This Award is rewarding the fact that the EnergyAgency.NRW, together with about 150 partners from associations, industry, research institutes, public administrations and other organisations in NRW, is co-ordinating new developments and the market launch of new technologies for centralised and decentralised CHP. And we see the Award as a clear statement to continue on our successful path”.

Hanae Chauvaud de Rochefort from The Association for Decentralised Energy (The ADE) in the UK: “The model we developed is the first of its kind, enabling the carbon savings from CHP to be empirically analysed for the first time. It reveals that cogeneration will always displace less efficient gas from being a lower marginal cost generator and therefore can deliver price and carbon savings to all energy consumers. I am thrilled to receive this Award and would like to thank COGEN Europe for recognising the model’s value”.

Piero Gattoni, President of CIB – Consorzio Italiano Biogas: “Consorzio Italiano Biogas is very proud of the Award assigned to its member Cooperativa Speranza, a farm with biogas plant wich built a district heating to heat up the nearby Institute for the Research and Treatement of Cancer. This represent a clear example of high commitment towards the local community with a perfect integration within the territory, moving a step forward in the key role of agriculture in the next future."

Marco Baresi, Institutional Affairs & Marketing Director Turboden: “Turboden’s project in Brønderslev is a clear example of technological innovation: a 3.8 MWe ORC unit that performs better than expected” – states Marco Baresi, Institutional Affairs & Marketing Director Turboden S.p.A. “This is an interesting example of HYBRID cogeneration system from solid biomass connected to district heating at low temperature 45-55 °C (instead of the traditional 60-80 ° C) associated to a “Concentrated Solar Power system” and heat pumps. For around 40 years Turboden has been developing different sizes ORC systems (from few kW to 12 MWe), and just in these days we are celebrating the 300th biomass ORC plant sold in the world”.
